If You will see our brochure do not remain indifferent
to children in need
1992-1993: Direct Help to Eastern Europe is founded and begins its
action to supply Polish orphanages
with clothing and dry foods
obtained from the Polish community during fundraising drives.
2006: Please
see our Project
Summary for the year
2006
This year we were lucky enough to
get a new volunteer member/representative residing in Poland
Mr.
Wojciech Waliszewski. He is a true blessing for our small
organization.
2002: A fund drive in St
Hyacinth's Church in Chicago in June and generous private
donations allow the organization to spend over $10,000 on
purchasing materials for Polish orphanages and one in Tbilisi,
Georgia. Please see our Project Summary for 2002. DHEE adds a Ukranian orphanage to our
website. The organization continues fundraising and visits to
orphanages this year.
2001: DHEEprepares brochures and other materials to distribute in
the ethnic neighborhoods of Chicago and at the Polish parade on
May 5th 2001. From these collected funds we hope to continue our
action of purchasing necessary household equipment for the
Children's Homes in Poland.
In
this year DHEE is expanding its focus to include help in
securing psychological and vocational services for some
orphanages in Poland. Also this year DHEE has registered its
second location in North Port, Florida. We
develop working relationship with other organizations. Also, we
create a visible presence on the internet.
2000: DHEE begins to expand its mission to other Eastern European
countries. We contact Embassies to collect information on
orphanages in other Eastern European nations. In June 2000 the
organization organizes a small but effective rummage sale to
raise funds for orphanages. In August 2000 one member of DHEE
visits a group of orphanages in Poland to establish contacts and
gather information. In October 2000 the founder of the
organization visits Poland and establishes contacts with 26
Children's Homes and visits 10 of them personally. In all DHEE
donates $5,500.00 to these 26 homes in the form of household
equipment such as refrigerators, washers, dishwashers etc. (one
item per home)
1999:
DHEE promotes an action to encourage individuals to send
presents to the children for the Holidays. The campaign is
successful and various groups and individuals establish contact
with orphanages personally or via telephone. This action
continues today as Polish Americans call DHEE to
get addresses
and telephone numbers to orphanages all
over Poland.
1998: With the help of Alderman of the 30th Ward Michael Wojcik,
DHEE sends out announcement letters asking for donations to the
Polish/American and American owned businesses in Chicago. In
June 1998 we refocus our direction from providing exclusively
material help to starting awareness campaigns.
1997: DHEE joins in the effort to collect funds for the flood
victims in Poland especially for the orphanages affected by this
natural disaster. Due to effective fund raising in the Polish
community we send various items including medicines to
orphanages devastated by the floods.
1994-1996: DHEE continues to send packages with clothing and foods
to orphanages in Poland. There is constant media attention with
each fundraising drive in the form of newspaper and radio
articles and appeals. We establish closer contacts with a small
group of orphanages in the Warsaw area and in the city of
Koszalin through visitations. Our organization receives some
positive media coverage in Poland and acknowledgement letters
form the Chancellery of the
President of Poland and the
Ministry.
